  • Abstract
With the rapid progress in multiband wireless communications, such as GSM/DCS and WLAN 802.1 la + b, a dual-band antenna with a compact size is required for mobile users or equipment. In this paper, the design of a U-slotted PIFA (planar inverted-F antenna) having the bandwidths of around 10% and 20% for its lower and upper bands, respectively, is first presented. Then the effects of different ground-plane dimensions on the center frequencies and bandwidths of the two operating bands are studied. Details of the experimental results are shown and discussed.
