Abstract
An L-slot loaded rectangular microstrip patch antenna (RMSA) for compact, dual band operation is investigated. By varying the dimensions of L-slot, resonant frequencies of both the bands can be altered. An approximate Transmission line based equivalent model is proposed, which agrees well with simulation results. It has been observed that depending on the dimensions of unperturbed, regular RMSA, the proposed antenna exhibits frequency ratios in the range 1.03 to 1.5. By suitable selection of L-slot dimensions, broadband characteristics can be achieved as well.
