Abstract :
The gait of nine Duchenne muscular dystrophy boys who walked unaided, and 21 normal boys were analyzed in a gait laboratory. Movement over a Kistler force plate was monitored using a video recorder and a visualized ground reaction force (GRF) device in order to superimpose the patient´s GRF vector on the video recording of his walk. Analysis of the results indicates that the boys with muscular dystrophy have normal neuromuscular control mechanisms, and that this is why they adopt compensatory changes in order to stand and to walk
