Abstract :
The Kendall Square Query Decomposer works in conjunction with the underlying ORACLE7 relational database management system to greatly speed up the execution of decision support queries. The Query Decomposer leverages the parallelism and shared memory model of the KSR 1 computer to reduce query execution time to seconds. From the viewpoint of an application developer or end user, the query decomposition process is transparent, other than the substantial speed-up in performance. The Query Decomposer is applied automatically to appropriate queries (although it can be turned off if desired). Queries do not need to be modified, and existing ORACLE applications do not need to be rewritten to use this facility.<>
