Abstract :
The dielectric constant of the substrate is determined accurately by measuring the resonance frequency and dimensions of any regular shaped microstrip antenna. The equivalence of any regular shaped microstrip antennas with rectangular configuration is established, thus enabling the use of all the available very accurate closed form expressions of rectangular configuration for effective dielectric constant and edge extensions, which takes into account of the dispersion effect. The method is validated by simulated and calculated resonance frequencies, which are determined using dielectric constant of the present method. The maximum error between various frequencies is within 0.3%.
