Abstract :
We discuss the application of funnel control to speed control of wind turbine systems. It is shown that the (simplified) dynamics of the mechanical system of wind turbines are of the class of minimum-phase systems with relative degree one and known (here negative) sign of the high-frequency gain. The control performance of the funnel speed controller is compared to that of a standard nonlinear speed controller used in wind turbine systems. The presented simulation results illustrate the possible benefits of funnel control compared to the standard controller.
