  • Abstract
    Optical subcarriers can be used for several different important applications in optical networks. This paper explores the implementation of optical subcarriers for control, monitoring, routing, and transmission in networks. Additionally, we discuss the limitations imposed on subcarriers by the optical fiber itself, such as RF fading caused by chromatic dispersion and polarization-mode dispersion.
