Abstract
When using computerized design support, structuring of both the design process and the parameters influencing the design is necessary. In order to facilitate a systematic design process, an approach to a system design method (SDM) is developed. This method consists of thirteen phases. A computerized design support system is integrated into the method, helping the system designer develop and evaluate assembly system alternatives. The structuring of the information concerning the assembly system design is carried out through a classification of the parameters, and by system parameter analysis. The relationship between the system design method, the computerized design support and the system parameters is important
