  • Abstract
A real-time digital system is proposed to aid speech reception for people with severe high-frequency hearing loss. The system selectively transfers essential inaudible speech cues into the low-frequency residual hearing range in terms of audible surrogates. Speech parameters such as formants, frication, and temporal characteristics are determined through time-domain analysis. The system is implemented using four high-speed digital signal processors operating in parallel
