Abstract :
The concept of symmetry in free space optical links is discussed. Simple equations describing the minimum carrier sense distance, the minimum and maximum distance of reliable link, and maximum interference distance are derived. Examples from the IRDA specification for IR links are given. A solution is presented to the parity variation problem by controlling the field of view of such transceivers
