Abstract
The goal of the CIMOSA project is to provide an open system reference architecture which covers all the information needs in a manufacturing enterprise. Among all the forthcoming open systems interconnection (OSI) standards, CIMOSA has chosen the RDA (remote database access) protocol as the access protocol for the information services. The motivation of this choice, the common concepts and an example of mapping between the information services and RDA services are discussed. The deficiencies of the RDA standard as compared to the CIMOSA requirements are indicated
