Abstract
This paper proposes a coordinated control strategy for VSC-HVDC connected offshore wind farms (OWF) which enhances the ability of the VSC-HVDC system to contribute more synthetic inertia without needs of communications. Different from the previous inertia emulation methods, the proposed method utilizes the OWF to supply additional fast active power change and can provide larger synthetic inertia without increasing the volume of dc-link capacitors. A simulation model of a three-terminal HVDC system with two connected OWFs has been built in Matlab/Simulink, and the validation of the proposed control method is verified by the simulation results.
