Abstract :
Despite the fact that P2P networks have emerged as a powerful and popular paradigm for numerous scalable applications in recent years, this architecture, which provides large-scale VoD services, still allows scope for improvement: 1> How to optimize the network flow by reducing the control overhead. 2> How to support user interactivity efficiently, such as VCR operations and minimize its effect of interrupting other peers playback undesirably. In this paper, we propose a P2P VoD system based on a hierarchical overlay structure called PVDP, which can reduce control overhead by assembling and leaching the reporting and locating messages. This P2P architecture is also designed to support the VCR operation and fault tolerance via defining the segment priority and prefetching the segments. We compare the P2VOD with the PVDP in this paper. The simulation experiments show that compared with the P2VOD, PVDP has lower control overhead and can decrease the effect of the VCR operation.
