Abstract :
Users in the heterogeneous wireless environment can choose from 3GPP wireless network, WiMAX, WiFi-Hotspot, Blue tooth, etc. depending on their situation. In addition to a charging plan and information about the transmission rate, a user or a mobile terminal should have information about which kind of communication services can be used and their coverage areas. Since most carrier operators do not disclose the accurate locations of their base stations, a location information system has to estimate an unknown base station´s location on the basis of information stored in the mobile terminal, or looks for them and measures their location. We propose a location information system that estimates an unknown base station´s location around a mobile terminal from positional relation of base stations and distances between the mobile terminal and unknown base stations.
