Abstract
The performance analysis of an L-shaped antenna having self-complementary structure (SCS), which is applied to a finite-sized flat ground plane (GP), is described. Because of the finite-sized GP, the antenna is not a perfect self-complementary antenna (SCA); however, it still has fairly wide bandwidth (BW) and can be applied to small mobile terminals, for which wide BW operation is required. The BW characteristics of the antenna, in terms of the radiation efficiency as well as VSWR, are discussed with respect to the antenna dimensions. This type of antenna has a potential to be used for small mobile terminals such as personal computers, PDAs, card type ones, etc.
