Abstract
The intention of this paper is to provide an example of the capability, effectiveness, and practicality of the Caple Generic Unified Systems Engineering Metamodel (GUSEM) as a tool for analysing and understanding the structure and design of an existing system. Such an analysis lays the foundation for the design of any modem system, and, indeed, the design of a replacement, new, or competing system. An analysis of the design of the 1940 United Kingdom Air Defence System is used as the example
