Abstract
Lightning presents specific hazards to any industrial facility. These hazards are caused by lightning strikes, as well as their secondary effects, and can be defined as: direct strikes to the facility; penetrability of the facility walls to electromagnetic pulses; transient voltages on incoming and outgoing power lines, data lines and telephone lines; and the bound charge hazard. A lightning prevention system which eliminates both lightning strikes and damaging secondary effects is described. The authors discuss collector-driver systems and the stroke prevention concept.<>
