Abstract :
The code for lightning protection NFPA-780 has gone through a number of revisions since 1980 when the ´Zone of Protection´ or 150 ft. final striking distance was introduced. An analysis of indiscriminate bonding of metal objects to the lightning protection system produced a new section on treatment of metal bodies. The use of a ground loop interconnecting all ground media has been added as a requirement for structures over 60 ft. in height. These changes help greatly in application of lightning protection systems to modern structures.<>
