Abstract :
Two methods used to implement variable-rate services in a DS-CDMA based FPLMTS system are studied, multi-code transmission and single-code transmission using a variable spreading factor. The methods are compared in terms of performance, complexity, and flexibility. It is found that none of the methods is, in general, superior to the other and the choice of method depends on the importance of different criteria
