Abstract
Traditional TCP is not suitable in VANET because of the lack of the ability to identify packet loss due to the congestion and the bad channel quality. The network performance of traditional TCP and TCP for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (ATCP) is analyzed based on 802.11p, a data link layer protocol for VANET. Suburban and urban scenarios are built for simulation. 802.11b and 802.11p protocols, TCP and cross-layer ATCP are used for comparison. Simulation results show that combination of ATCP and 802.11p achieves better performance in the average throughput and the average end-to-end delay than other combinations used in simulation.
