Abstract
The topological derivative (TD) of a shape functional is introduced previously and evaluated for shape functionals depending on solutions of elliptic equations including the Laplace equation and the elasticity system. TD allows us to obtain the new optimality conditions for shape optimization problems. The applications of TD include optimal control problems and numerical methods for shape inverse problems
