Abstract :
Electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structures have been widely explored in recent years. Due to their unique electromagnetic features, various antenna and device applications have been reported. One important feature of EBG structures is the in-phase reflection coefficient, which enables one to design low profile antennas without losing radiation efficiency. However, most research is focused on square unit EBG surfaces that are independent on polarization states. In this paper, polarization dependent EBG (PDEBG) surfaces are investigated. A numerical model, various EBG surface designs, and potential antenna applications are presented.
