Abstract :
In this paper, we present an implemented portable medical streaming media system that integrates both a remote medical videoconference and real-time electronic medical records via a wireless communication network. This design provides users with access to the system through wireless hand-held devices such as a Tablet PC or a PDA. Our design uses the MPEG-4 standard, a large amount of shortened video stream data at 1/24 sizes. Each picture or frame is compressed from 153.6 Kbytes to 6.21 Kbytes, together with effective error detection, which balances the quality of both the medical pictures and the transmission efficiency of the wireless communication network. In addition, our design, which also integrates the processing of the heart sound, supports a 44.1 KHz sampling rate and a 16-bit representation required 2 Kbps bandwidth through the sharing of the wireless transmission channel by using both a real-time transport protocol (RTP) and a real-time control protocol (RTCL).
