Abstract :
Several wire (or patch-) loaded monopole disc antennas are proposed for multi-broadband wireless applications. The antennas provide broad bandwidth in multiple bands by simple geometry modifications from conventional monopole disc antennas A prototype was built using a PICA (Planar Inverted Cone Antenna) by loading a wire on top of the antenna. Numerical and experimental results show that the wire-loaded PICA antenna covers commercial wireless bands of AMPS, GSM, DCS, PCS and even ISM in the single antenna element. The antenna does not need matching network. The antenna also provides typical monopole-type omni-directional patterns with a gain of 3-4 dBi over the commercial bands. The proposed wire (or patch) loaded monopole disc antennas have great potential for wireless communication applications.
