Abstract :
The EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS) is Europe´s first polar orbiting operational meteorological satellite system consisting of Metop satellites. This joint EUMETSAT - European Space Agency (ESA) programme is the European contribution to the Initial Joint Polar-Orbiting Operational Satellite System (IJPS). ESA, together with EUMETSAT, has started Phase 0 studies of the future continuation of the EPS system in 2008. These studies were finished during autumn 2009 and Phase A studies will start in 2010. Several instruments and instrument concepts are currently under study as a possible instrument complement to the future EPS system.
