Abstract :
The development of Trichel pulses in sphere-to-plane geometry is investigated by means of one-dimensional discharge model with the electric field computed in two dimensions. The train of pulses is triggered by the release of a number of free electrons in the vicinity of the cathode. In addition, a weak uniform background ionization is taken into account in the gas. The discharge is assumed to advance between the sphere and the plate along the axis of symmetry. Secondary electrons are created at the cathode by the impact of positive ions and by photoionization. In the bulk of the gas, ionization of neutral molecules, electron attachment and recombination have been considered as well
