Abstract
The Rapid Foundry Tooling System incorporates cutting-edge computer technology. A new computer technology called the Episodal Associative Memory (EAM) uses computers to collect and organize design and manufacturing knowledge in the form of individual design and analysis episodes. When properly organized and provided as reference, this collection of knowledge is then used to solve new problems. The capture of design and fabrication knowledge in the form of episodes provides easy access to vital information. The EAM also provides a powerful method to organize this information for use in support of new design and fabrication tasks. The Rapid Foundry Tooling System has been shown to provide unique and useful capabilities in support of the design of sand castings and molds for these castings
