Abstract :
Non-compliance and inappropriate usage of medication are common problems found among the elderly. The risks may range from significant reducing the effectiveness of medical treatment on chronic diseases to raised complications caused by adverse drug reaction (ADR). These problems are common especially for elderly patients with polypharmacy. To address these problems, a project for medication compliance and ADR prevention has been initiated since late 2004 with the following goals: (1) to develop an intelligent medication reminder device, (2) to integrate an adverse drug reaction prevention program, and (3) to implement a remote monitor system to check for continuous medication compliance. This paper introduces the project.
