Abstract :
Current QoE assessment approaches predominantly treat endusers as passive consumers of the services provided by the system under test. As a consequence, we witness a lack of evaluation methods suitable for real-world economic scenarios in which subjects actually represent active, decision-making agents. In this paper we provide guidance on how to conduct reliable and valid subjective lab experiments addressing economics-related QoE topics, based on the experiences from a recently conducted lab study on video quality as well as preceding trials. Relevant design aspects include choice of appropriate video content, clip duration, participants´ monetary budgets and quality pricing. Furthermore, we discuss how individual expectations w.r.t video quality can be quantified and modeled.
