Abstract :
Insects posses garden variety of traits, but for some which lack the ability of vision, their species would have been extinct long ago. Through ingenuity of creation, these species adapted to the environment by developing antennas where they can use the principle of basic electromagnetics to feel the surrounding objects. In this paper a new design for broad band microstrip antennas was investigated. The main aim is making the patch like a cockroach antenna and then recording the parameters of this new design. The cockroach antenna design gave really good results as the bandwidth percentage was almost 120% for a substrate with permittivity (epsivr = 4.5). For using Air substrate the antenna was fabricated and the band width for the practical design was 42%.
