Application of Cool Edit Pro in English Listening Teaching Practice

Cool Edit Pro, a software package for processing audio materials, can greatly enrich and facilitate English listening teaching with its comprehensive, especially easy-to-learn functions. This paper first selects and describes some functions of Cool Edit, i.e., making recordings, extracting audio, editing, and audio adjustments which are believed to meet the basic teaching needs. Then the paper illustrates how these functions can aid English listening in teaching, in terms of processing authentic materials, constructing a listening environment, and preparing students for large-scale standardized tests.
