Abstract :
This paper presents a dynamic model allowing to predict the behaviour of a DC arc on ice-covered insulator surfaces. The input data are insulator geometry, ice layer characteristics and/or properties and applied voltage. This model makes it possible to calculate the flashover voltage. The computed results are compared to those measured experimentally using a cylindrical insulator. Good agreement between computed and experimental results was obtained for DC+ as well as for DC-
