Abstract :
This paper provides an alternative to the conventional back-to-back converter currently used within appliance motor drives. The novel approach suggests using IPM/IRAMS modules in building the power stage. Moreover, this novel power stage configuration does not include the bulky DC bus capacitor, and reduces the filtering requirements, resulting in a smaller and more reliable assemble. Complete description of the hardware and trade-offs of the solution are provided.
