Abstract :
The automation of sewing machinery requires that sensing be added to insure quality of the stitching. This paper describes the use of piezoelectric technology to indirectly monitor sewing thread consumption which allows an inference of seam quality. An inexpensive microprocessor system is employed to monitor the sensor. The technology developed is reliable and applicable to a wide range of sewing machinery
