  • Abstract
In today´s yarn making environment, high production yields are of major importance. This implies that the spinning machines operate 24 hrs/day and that there is a minimum of interruptions. The machines are built for use with multiple products, making changes “on the fly” possible. String-up of the yarn is also highly automated, making it relatively quick and efficient. Notwithstanding all the automation, removing the yarn after a break and stringing it up again, is a time of lost production. Although yarn breakage may occur for different reasons, in a well controlled environment, power outages are the major cause. To reduce the risk of interruption during short power outages or brown-out different design features are incorporated and become an important part of the drive and control system for a spinning machine application
