Abstract :
With the “fibre-to-the curb” infrastructure the B-ISDN was conceived as a single network capable of transporting all types of services, from telephone to video. Given the expense and limitations of physical cabling, the idea of employing radio technology in the “last mile” becomes an obvious alternative. A two-layer cellular structure is suggested as a solution in high-capacity (up to 10 Mbit/sec) multimedia services distribution. The architecture is based on fast level radio network, using a star configuration of point to point links and a second level, based on local repeaters, radiating the information received from the first one. The paper proposes the architecture, frequency plan, design concepts and an experimental configuration adopted on a trial basis to show the feasibility of the TLN. Experimental results, act to define the star configuration parameters, have been carried out recently
