Abstract :
Global manufacturing is constantly evolving and getting more competitive with time. This requires effective methods for system engineering, being able to perform Product Design and Production Development in a concurrent way. Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS) have been developed within modular frameworks to meet the dynamic manufacturing demand. This paper presents a scientific framework of a design tool that is capable of objectively registering development progression of new process modules for RMS. It uses `Qualitative Analysis´ based on `Coding´ combined with the method of `Structured Analysis Design Technique´. In five consecutive stages, the development progression is indexed. The method has been tested on a true case; monitoring the development of a 3D measuring probe for geometrical measuring.
