Abstract
The characteristics of shallow water are studied in this paper, including multipath spreading, frequency selective attenuation and so on, which is a guidance for disposing communication modems according to the sound velocity profile to mitigate intersymbol interference (ISI) and to improve the underwater acoustic (UWA) communication range. In order to diminish ISI caused by multipath, Virtual Time Reversal Mirror is adopted and its focusing characteristic is validated by simulation. At last, a scheme for UWA multiuser communication based on VTRM is proposed and simulated, which could separate each modem´s information by VTRM and permit several modems communicating at the same time.
