Abstract :
Game-based Learning (GBL) is an efficient approach to increase students\´ learning motivations. However, to develop a specially-designed educational game is time-consuming and limited to specific subject, which leads to high cost and low reusability problems. Integrating general purpose commercial games into educational context and subjects seems a potential approach but the pressing issue still is how to leverage fun and meaningful learning. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the potential and effect on integrating learning subjects with subject-free games. Hence, a Collaborative Subject-free Learning Game (CSfLG) Scheme is proposed to integrate learning with gaming by answering test items as gaining game resources and to inspire students to collaboratively play and learn by complementary game factor design. A prototypical Web-based learning game system based on CSfLG scheme has also been developed and integrated a subject-free game, called League of Learners (LoL), with a learning subject, "Introduction to computer Science". Experimental results show that CSfLG scheme and its game are efficient and beneficial for students.
