Abstract :
With the development of the multimedia technology, such as voice and video, it is very necessary to supply a certain level of quality of service (QoS) because they are sensitive to delay. To address this issue, a QoS mechanism which works in layer II called Time Division Multiple Access-Demand Assignment Multiple Access (TDMA-DAMA) is proposed. The goal of the algorithm is to compute the request from the satellite terminals and allocate the scarce satellite resource to them avoiding high transmission delay and increasing the link utilization. In order to prove the effect of the algorithm, a simulation model based on network simulator 2 (NS2) is designed. Besides, the TDMA-DAMA extension block for NS2 is essential for the simulation and parts of that are available online. According to the simulation results, TDMA-DAMA algorithm in DVB-RCS satellite systems can provide quality of service for voice or video traffic and get good performance compared with other bandwidth allocation mechanism.
