  • Abstract
An unequal power assignment strategy 3G system is proposed in this paper, which aims to maximize the admission capacity of one cell. Through the analysis of multiple access interference (MAI) for the uplink of the 3G system, a formula to calculate the optimal power ratio for multimedia traffic is deduced. The performance of the novel strategy in a 3GPP-FDD system with integrated speech and data traffic has been investigated and compared with the traditional equal power assignment (EPA) strategy. Simulation results reveal that unequal power assignment outperforms the EPA. The application of the unequal power assignment strategy in the adaptive multi-rate (AMR) codec is investigated and simulation results show that different AMR modes have different influence on admission capacity.
