Abstract :
Traffic engineering is aimed at optimizing the utilization of existing network resources for load balance and failure recovery. Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS), constraint-based routing, enhanced link state Internet gateway protocol (IGP), and path signaling protocols are useful tools for traffic engineering. We discuss the general issues of designing a MPLS system applicable in traffic engineering and moreover, the design of Iran data network´s MPLS system is presented. Finally a performance comparison, through evaluating the number of congested links and packet losses in the network for models with and without a traffic engineering system, is conducted.
