Abstract :
The importance of performance considerations in object-oriented reuse is pointed out. It is emphasized that the performance of software systems built through reuse should be predictable from their reconfiguration specifications prior to physical realization. A three-level approach is presented, based on separate models of organizational usage patterns, software component performance characterizations, and hardware performance models. The basic analysis methods are described. The process of establishing static component performance characterizations through measurement is discussed, and a realization of the approach in connection with the REBOOT project is outlined. Conclusions and directions for further work are offered
