Abstract :
A proposed smart transducer interface standard P1451, is being developed by TC9, Technical Committee on Sensor Technology, of the Instrumentation and Measurement Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). The proposed standard is divided into four parts. Each part is a standard, which can be standalone or can function with the other member of the P1451 family of standards. This paper briefly describes the relationship of the four standards in P1451 that deal with different aspects of transducer interfacing. These include communication protocols between transducers and microprocessors, the network-independent information model for smart transducers, the multidrop transducer bus, and the mixed-mode transducers
