  • Abstract
    A method of triangular mesh adaptation and its application is presented in this paper. A triangular mesh is divided into multi-region according to its geometrical feature, and its triangles are sorted by their curvature and pressure gradient for the operations of refinement and coarsening. Differing from optimizing vertex position by mapping triangular mesh 3D to 2D regular region, the techniques of maximizing minimum angle and vertex relocation based on surface reconstructing are employed in this paper for every triangle of each region, to realize robust and efficient adaptation for a triangular mesh. This method is especially suitable to generate triangular mesh for numerical calculation from STL model with free-form surface, and it is verified by some engineering cases, which shows this method is useful.
