Abstract :
Summary form only given. The integration of sensor technology into SiP and miniaturized 3D assemblies is now active and following policy trends and roadmaps often promoted through the "More than Moore" concept, championed by initiatives such as ITRS and the EU Framework programs. These trends open important applications for intelligent autonomous sensor networks and ambient intelligence in sectors including energy, security, transport, civil infrastructure and the environment. Reliability and dependability tends to be crucial for the majority of emerging products in this area. This presentation will look at current and emerging technologies that can contribute to fault tolerance in miniaturized sensor enabled systems. The presentation will identify existing self-test and condition monitoring strategies and discuss the possibility of extending these technologies to full prognostics. Applications in autonomous Health and Usage Monitoring systems will also be discussed.
