  • Abstract
    VSC-based HVDC is more and more concerned recently to improve power system stability due to controllability of its IGBT valve. In this paper, a two-machine power system model with VSC-based HVDC transmission is established and analyzed. Through eigenvalue analysis, it is shown that the system stability is enhanced significantly with the proposed VSC-based HVDC in transmission systems. Furthermore, digital simulation studies are conducted using the well-established PSCAD/ EMTDC software package to show the effectiveness of the proposed VSC-based HVDC in damping oscillations when faults occurred
