Abstract :
The paper describes a new axial flux machine design. The stator features a novel airgap winding featuring concentrated coils with flat conductors. The forming of coils and selection of appropriate conductor is described for the manufacture of a demonstrator machine. The calculation of the open-circuit eddy current power loss is provided, which is particularly relevant to airgap windings in permanent magnet machines.
