  • Abstract
    The unregulated steady-state behaviour of a capacitor-excited three-phase induction generator in a stand-alone micro hydro power plant is predicted. The standard equivalent circuit is converted with only one parallel element to reduce the complexity of the solution process. The computation process for determining the operating parameters to achieve a given operating condition is also presented. Based on the derived processes, computer simulations are performed to predict the required capacitance, turbine power and load impedance that would result in a desired voltage and frequency. Manners in which the system variables such as the terminal voltage and frequency vary with each of the three operating parameters are also predicted. A lower load power factor is seen to give rise to better regulations of voltage and frequency against fluctuations in load impedance
