Abstract :
Summary form only given. Solid-state Raman crystals are presently being investigated. Since they contain Raman active centers with intrinsically high concentrations, the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) process offers lower thresholds and higher gain coefficients than gaseous media. To develop these advantages, we attempted to grow a Raman crystal by using the micro pull-down method. Using this technique, high-quality, fiber-shaped crystals with an optical waveguide effect were readily obtained without fabrication. We chose lanthanum tungstate La/sub 2/(WO/sub 4/)/sub 3/ (LWO). Though this compound has not been reported as a Raman material, it is expected to show strong SRS by symmetric vibration of W-O bonding.
